Skin age test: how old is your skin and how is it measured?

In short: Skin age means how old your skin looks, judging by things like fine lines, spots and pores. It is different from the age on your ID card and is only a cosmetic estimate from a photo, not a medical test. With one selfie, in about 30 seconds, you can see your own estimate in the free demo.

What does skin age mean?

Skin age is not the age on your ID card. Two people of the same age can have very different-looking skin, because sun, sleep, smoking, dehydration, genetics and daily care all affect how skin looks. "Skin age" is a simple way to describe that look with one number.

How does an online skin age test work?

You take a selfie with your phone and the software looks at how the skin appears in several areas. The Skin Scan report shows these five things:

  • Skin age: an overall estimate of how the skin looks.
  • Spots and uneven colour: how strong the spots and dark patches are.
  • Pores: how open they look.
  • Fine lines: surface lines, for example around the eyes.
  • Redness: areas that look redder.

The result describes how the skin looks in that one photo. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace a doctor's opinion.

Do these five things for a more accurate result

  • Soft daylight: face a window, not harsh or yellow light.
  • No make-up: foundation and concealer cover spots and pores.
  • No filter: a plain camera, not a beauty mode.
  • Hair back, looking straight ahead: forehead and cheeks should be fully visible.
  • The same every time: if you want to see change, always use the same light and distance.

What makes skin look older?

  • Sun without sunscreen, one of the most important factors.
  • Lack of sleep and constant stress.
  • Smoking and hookah.
  • Dehydration and dry skin without a moisturiser.
  • Heavy use of irritating products or scrubs.

My skin age is higher than my real age; what now?

Do not worry; it is an estimate of appearance. The simplest steps are sunscreen every day, gentle cleansing and a moisturiser. See the skincare routine guide. If you are worried about spots, acne or a sudden change in your skin, talk to a dermatologist.

If you run a clinic

This same test can be your Instagram bio link: a follower takes a selfie, sees their skin report in your clinic's name and their number reaches your reception. See the price and demo on the Skin Scan for clinics page.

Frequently asked questions

What is skin age?
Skin age is an estimate of how the skin looks: whether your fine lines, spots, pores and redness look like the skin of a certain age. It is not the age on your ID card and it is not a medical diagnosis.
How accurate is a skin age test?
It is an estimate, not a laboratory measurement. Light, camera quality, make-up and filters all affect the result. For a more reliable comparison, always take the photo in the same light and from the same distance.
Is the skin age test free?
You can try the Persian demo of Skin Scan for free. Before the scan you give consent and confirm that you are over 18.
Why is my skin age higher than my real age?
It usually comes down to a few things: sun exposure, lack of sleep, smoking, dehydration and irregular care. These affect how the skin looks, and some of them can be improved with daily habits.
How often should I take a skin age test?
To see change, for example once every three months, each time in the same light and from the same distance. Testing daily makes no sense, because skin does not change noticeably in a few days.
Does the test result replace a doctor's opinion?
No. The test only describes how the skin looks. For severe acne, a sudden dark patch or moles that are changing, a dermatologist must see you.

This page is general information and does not replace a doctor's opinion. The test result describes how the skin looks in the photo and is not a diagnosis.
